It's For Girls
Mayo Sports Partnerships Sports Development Officer Anne Ronayne ,along with her colleagues on Castlebar Sports Forum and other county wide fora, works closely with the many secondary schools in County Mayo encouraging girls to participate in sport/activity. They have over the past number of years put together a programme called 'Its for Girls' which is an all encompassing programme encouriaging schools across County Mayo to increase girls’ fitness levels by training to walk or jog the West of Ireland Women’s Mini Marathon. The Its for Girls programme also includes the rolling out of a very successful Girls in Sport Seminar in February last year with over 500 attendees, The MSP Girls Active programme and many other additional programmes.
Statistics show that girls fall off in fitness levels once they start secondary school and much work is being done to support girls get more active. To achieve this, in 2016 and 2017 Mayo Sports Partnership set out an Its of Girls Challenge to secondary schools. The 2018 Its For Girls Challenge will be announced over the next number of weeks. Girls 13 years and upward can participate in the West of Ireland Womens Mini Marathon.
The 'It's For Girls' challenge is open to all secondary schools and interested schools must register with Mayo Sports Partnership.
